본인이 만 18 ~ 25세 사이의 미영주권자인 남성이면, 미시민권 신청 시 한가지 명심해야 할 점은 미시민권 신청 전에 Selective Serviced 에 등록을 해야만 한다. 의무적으로 등록을 해야만 하는 것은 아니지만 미시민권자과 되려면 반드시 등록을 해야만 한다. 비이민자는 등록을 할 의무가 없다. 이민법상, Selective Service 와 등록을 안하면 부도덕적이라고 간주된다. 만약 해당 기간은 과거 5년이므로 본인이 만 31세 이상이라면 등록을 안해도 미시민권을 취득할 수도 있으므로, 미국 이민변호사와 상담을 해 보는 것이 좋겠다.

Applicants over 31 years of age (or over 29 for those married to U.S. citizens) will not ordinarily be denied solely for failure to register, even if that failure was knowing and willful. However, if there is other evidence, besides the failure to register, to show that the person is not well disposed to the good order of the United States and society, then the USCIS examiner may try to deny the person's naturalization application on that basis.
